We headed down to Gunnison to spend the night with Jed's sister, Vicki, and her family. We were going down to Cannonville which is by Bryce Canyon to go hiking the slot canyons and just have a fun time with the family. Brooklynn quickly made new friends with Kavon, Rhiley, and Miranda, her cousins. Thank you Vicki and Shannon for letting us crash at your house that night.
Thurs. April 9th
After waiting for Jed's parents, Roger and Joanne, and Shannon's parents (Guy and Marilyn) to come down we headed off for Cannonville. We made a few stops one of which was Big Rock Candy Mountain. I have never been to this place but Jed has always said that it was fun to go in and get candy. So we stopped and walked in and we were very disappointed. They turned the store into a cafe and they only have a little gift shop with jewelry and cards. What fun is it to have a Big Rock Candy Mountain with no candy? Around 3:00 or so we arrived in Cannonville and got checked into our campground. We decided to just rent a cabin and they were pretty nice. After getting settled in we decided to go find a quick little hike in a slot canyon before it got too dark. We (I mean Shannon and his father) decided to find a canyon called Round Valley Draw. We took a little hike and then we had to drop down to get into the canyon. At first I was not going to go because we had to use ropes to drop down in and I knew we couldn't take the kids down so I was just going to stay up at the top with Joanne, Marilyn and Guy. Jed and Shannon got everyone down and came back up and talked me into going down after Joanne and Marilyn said they would watch the kids. So I got down in.

The first picture is the 1st big drop off and this rope was aleady there. Here is the view from the bottom of the canyon.

This is Jed and his dad jumping over some of the big boulders in the canyon.

This picture does not do slot canyons justice. They are really deep and narrow.

This is all of us before we turned around and went back in to get out.

Here is Shannon and Rhiley climbing back out.

View from up on top.
Just wait this vacation story gets better. To be continued...
